Emotionally Healthy Spirituality: Unleash a Revolution in Your Life in Christ

by Peter Scazzero | Amazon

Emotionally Healthy Spirituality is one in a series of Emotionally Healthy books written by Peter Scazzero over the last fifteen years. This installment in the series is very practical. Its main focus is stressing that it is not possible to be spiritually mature while remaining emotionally immature. As believers we often focus on our spirituality. We become so focused on maturing spiritually that we ignore the fact that many of us are still emotionally immature. We are also reminded that emotional maturity is not defined by a person’s age.

One solution presented for emotionally unhealthy spirituality is focusing on a combination of emotional health and contemplative spirituality. The author stresses that both are necessary to loving God, ourselves, and others. Another solution, which is a significant takeaway from the book, is that the key to emotional maturity is being able to see the uniqueness and separateness of every person. We have to stop expecting people to be replicas of us and expect them to see the world the same way we do.

Emotionally Healthy Spirituality includes a chapter on the top ten symptoms of emotionally unhealthy spirituality so readers are able to diagnose themselves. Another chapter gives an adaptation of six stages of faith that the author believes every believer goes through on their Christian journey. Within the six stages is The Wall. Every believer goes through The Wall to get to the other side of spiritual maturity. Various Walls will come and go throughout our individual journeys with God.This book provides rich wisdom and valuable skills to help the reader grow into an emotionally and spiritually mature adult.
